HOUSE COMP 2016

Sheffield’s House Skatepark’s annual shenanigans which is the House Comp is breaking new ground in its 15th year, when it will become the first professionally live-streamed comp in the UK. The folks at the House have teamed up with Sheffield-based extreme sports streaming company Technative to bring the pro / sponsored section of this event, on 15th October, to a wider audience across the internet. The move to take on a broadcasting format familiar across Europe and in the States, but still in the experimental stages here, is intended to give greater exposure to UK skateboarding talent, as well as a helping hand to those unable to, or too slack to, get down to the comp itself. And ramping up the comp means a bigger prize pot, with £2,500 for the skater taking first place in the section.
The House is promising a ‘proper’ broadcast (in the traditional and Yorkshire sense) complete with commentary from a studio team of industry wise owls, assembled to chart the chances of those competing for web-based fame and fortune. The prize fund is offering £2,500 for first place, £1,000 for second, £500 for third, £250 for fourth, £125 for fifth, and £75 for sixth place.
There’s plenty of proddy for the taking too, from event sponsors Death, Landscape, Heroin, Sour, Skateboard Cafe, Fabric and The Karm plus Slugger, Props and Avit.
But if the streaming of the Pro / Sponsored event is a break from the norm, for the rest of the comp it’s business as usual, right down to the now unchallengeable £5 to enter, skate or spectate on the day. Doors open at 10am so get there good and early to get your name down for either the 12 and Under comp for rising stars which starts at midday, or the Unsponsored section set for 1pm. The live-streamed Pro / Sponsored event is scheduled for 3pm.
Keeping riders and spectators fully fuelled during the day is the Bhaji Shop, Thali Cafe, who will be serving up street food as an alternative to House standard pop and crisps. So come down; you’re very welcome to be part of UK skateboarding history.

FORGED FROM STEEL BLADE JAM

Blader collective Forged From Steel is transforming the House Skatepark into a blader’s paradise this coming Saturday, 11th June, when they host their first Blade Jam at the park. The day is a blade only event, featuring DJs, a BBQ and a marketplace of trade stalls, and ONLY an ice cream van to keep competitors cool. As well as an impressive array of sponsors, the Jam has a serious prize pot for the winners of the Expert / Sponsored category. First place nets you £500, second £250, and third £100, so it’s well worth throwing your hat in the ring.

Here’s how the day will run:

The park opens at 10am as usual but the day is BLADE ONLY, so please don’t turn up intending to skate or scoot, because we hate turning people away! While the competitive events start at 12, you might want to come down earlier if you intend to enter, as each category is open to 30 entrants max. Sign up sheets will be in the office from when the park opens. Then…

12pm: 16 and Under comp.

2pm: Open section.

4pm: Expert / Sponsored

The comp will round off with a Best Trick challenge, with a £100 prize generously donated by Rollhouse Skate Shop (check out their stall at the event).
